Yes: Elevated hemoglobin is not always reflective of bone marrow disorders. Secondary causes of erythrocytosis can include: Poly cystic liver/kidney disease, EPO secreting tumors, obstructive sleep apnea, heart and lung diseases. In order to determine the cause of elevated hemoglobin a serum EPO level should be performed.
