Last answer: The tongue is innervated by the hypoglossal nerve at the caudal end of the brainstem. ALS starting there relentlessly spreads rostrally to other cranial nerves & caudally into the cervical spinal cord (nerves to arms & hands). There is no cure so EMG/NCSs are never too "late" or too "soon." Do you want someone doing an EMG on your tongue? I wouldn't. Just follow your neurologist's advice.
