The diagnosis of Lou Gehrig's disease can often be elusive early on, and the EMG may not reveal the full extent of pathology unless done over at least 3 or even 4 limbs. A tongue EMG study is most revealing if florid fasciculations and atrophy are present. A second opinion from a neuromuscular specialist may be very helpful at this point.
