It depends: Remember that there is a range of normal values as you mentioned in your question. It is very likely that you may just "exist" at the upper limit of normal without having any concerning kidney disease, this would be especially true if you are more on the muscular side(as this type of person has higher baseline creatinine levels). If you are that concerned you should review this with your doc.

Could just be you: Reference ranges are set for couch-potatoes and if you're a well-muscled man, you'll have creatinine high, often above the "normal". And ranges are set arbitrarily to have a few percent of healthies outside on either end. Keep managing your hypertension and don't worry so much about creatinine.
