Uncertain: The cervix is usually quite visibleble on routine pelvic exam. I suugest a second opinion.

Position unusual: Probably means speculum was too short or that uterus is either flexed forward or back leading the cervix to be "pointed" backward or forward and out of easy sight. Usually with a longer speculum or a little more looking the cervix can be seen. Ask your doctor to look again!
