A member asked:

If the large intestines & all but approx 3 inches of the small intestines is removed to where a patient has had an ileostomy 12yrs, can it b reversed?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Usually not: You need more than 3 inches of your small intestine to survive, so there is likely more than that currently in place. After 12 years, surgeons are not likely to reverse an ileostomy.
