A member asked:

Can a pinched medial cutaneous nerve cause localized swelling? if so, how would it be diagnosed?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Swelling & nerves: A pinched nerve normally causes numbness, tingling, or a sensation of burning. Swelling and color change may occur with certain nerve conditions. A cutaneous nerve tends to supply a sense of touch to the skin. In this area, is there numbness to touch? What about to temperature, like an ice cube? Cutaneous nerves are difficult to test. Problems with them may be diagnosed by exam only.
