It depends: If you have had symptoms from your gallstones, you may want to think about having your gallbladder removed. Having a gallstone is not necessarily a reason to remove it. I am not aware of many effective nonoperative therapies for stones. It sounds like you have had some symptoms because of them. I would think about talking to your surgeon about why the operation is necessary.
