Few weeks: Presuming you are referring to a laparascopicly extracted gall bladder, you should be able to do most things within a couple of weeks. If it is an open gall bladder, it can be much longer.

Short: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is an outpatient procedure. Most patients can return to work within 1 week. For the open procedure, the recovery time is in the range of 3 to 4 weeks.

Days-to-Weeks: Most people may go home the same day as surgery; will require narcotic pain meds for 1-2 days; will return to work in 7-10 days, and; will return to full physical activity in 2-3 weeks. "results may vary", as they say on tv.

One week: Gallbladder surgery is usually done as an outpatient procedure meaning you go home a couple hours after the surgery. It's most commonly done laparoscopically with small incisions and a camera with one incision in the belly button and up to three additional small 5mm incisions. Most people take a week off work then feel up to going back to work with no heavy lifting for 4 weeks.

Depends: With a laparoscopic approach, many surgeons will do the procedure as an outpatient or just an overnight stay. In complicated cases or an open procedure, that changes according to the situation. After a straightforward case, i usually tell people to take 3-4 days off and no strenuous activity for 2 weeks.
