A member asked:

Can you have an overdose of folic acid if you take 400mcg twice a day and regularly?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unlikely: Folic acid is a water soluble vitamin so toxicity is very unlikely unless you are taking massive doses. The dose you are taking should be safe but unless you have a deficiency then once a day should be sufficient. 400 mcg of folic acid is what is in most prenatal vitamins but some contain up to 1000 mcg.
