Herpes simplex: Without either culturing the ulcer or scraping the base and examining under a microscope for inclusion bodies in cells cannot tell what this is. A rough texture alone is very unlikely to be Herpes, although without seeing it, it is impossible to diagnose. Good luck.

Herpes tests: Hi. The blood test for Herpes is an antibody test for HSV1 and HSV2. For an acute infection, your doctor will know what to order. Herpes can also be diagnosed by a Tzanck test, where scraping from the lesion is stained and looked at in the microscope. Your doctor will know these tests. Good luck!
