500kcal/d deficit: We typically ask you to strive for 500kcal/d deficit whether by eating less, exercising more, or hopefully a combination of both. The idea is that by week's end, you'll be down 3,500kcal or 1 pound. Safest way for long term weight loss is to lose 1-2 pounds a week, not some dramatic 10 pounds/wk crash diet.
