Parulis: How long ago was this root canal completed? Usually a bump on the gum (aka parulis) indicated an active infection (unless this tooth was recently treated and the bump was previously there). This is most likely caused by a root fracture in the tooth that causes infection or failure of the previous root canal (this happens, and sometimes with no explanation).

New? Pain?: How long after the root canal? New or old? Pain or not. It may represent a failed root canal and abscess. See dentist who did root canal for assessment.
