Dysmenorrhea: Start taking a NSAID like ibuprofen as soon as period cramps start and continue taking 3-4 times a day until your period is over. Getting on birth control and using the hormone portion continuously might also be helpful. There are other options, but you need to see you physician for those. It might be time to see a Gynecologist.

Plan for Periods: If your Periods are regular, you can start taking Motrin or Aleve 2-3 days in advance and hopefully reduce your pain when the period starts. Vitamin B6, 100 mg daily, has also been found to help with this problem. If this doesn't work after 2-3 cycles, you need to address the problem with your GYN and see if Hormonal cycling will help (ie OCP, Depo, or Nuvaring).
