A 27-year-old female asked:

Can coffee (or caffeine) cause or worsen acne? i always had acne even after puberty (1-3 new acne before my period) , but i started drinking coffee 1x/day (black, no sugar, milk, or cream or milk) and its worse now. would drinking decaf prevent it?

Unlikely. Little evidence shows that ingestion of particular foods can trigger acne flares. Acne flares, about 1 week prior to menstruation, have been experienced in 25-50% of women with mild acne.
Created for people with ongoing healthcare needs but benefits everyone.
