1st, take your pulse: The vagus nerve is a nerve that goes directly from the brain to various organs to run normal activities like regulation of the gut activity, heart rate and gland secretion. Irritation of the nerve often causes a decline in pulse rate (and lower blood pressure, dizziness and /or fainting).
