Oral hygiene: Gingivitis is the inflammation of the gum tissue without any resulting damage to the tissue (YET). Sometimes you need a visit with the hygienist to help start the healing process, but always and I stress always, it is the patient's responsibility to do proper home care to help the healing and prevent the return of gingivitis. Inflamed gum tissues is a risk for heart disease and diabetes.
