Wrong diagnosis: New borns probably has gingival inflammation due to tooth eruption, which is not pathologic. Palliative treatment recommended with ora jel or orabase or topical benzocain spray for comfort relief. Gingivitis is inflammation of the gum due to bacterial colonizaton in the gum tissue. It is pathologic and treated with good oral hygiene (good brushing and flossing) and dentist checkup.

Gingivitis?: How old is baby? While some babies are born with teeth, tooth eruption usually occurs b/w 4-9mo, and gum inflammation (gingivitis) would be unusual, more typically, gums would be a little swollen. Stomatitis, oral mucosa inflammation could be due to viral infix, medicine reaction, thrush can cause mouth inflammation plus a white plaque. Better call your dr with specifics.
