How long?: It is really based on the severity of your symptoms and how long you have had them. If you pain is traveling down the arm from the neck to the hand then this could represent nerve compression known as radiculopathy. These symptoms usually resolve over time with conservative care and therapy. If symptoms have lasted more than a week or two, then go visit your Doc.

See doctor: This could be a sign of a "pinched nerve" in your neck. The nerves that control your arm exit small openings in your neck. If the neck injury irritated or compressed the nerve/s in your neck you may experience pain, numbness, and/or weakness. Your doctor can help confirm this and point you in the right direction for treatment.
