Ask Dentist: Antibiotic to limit spread of infection may be in order. Another choice would be to see an Endodontist or Oral Surgeon now.

Don't wait too long : Catherine that's a really tough one. You may want to try topical anesthetics such as benzocaine. That is OTC (orajel.) Ice packs may do some good but their efficacy is limited. I know the pain can be exquisite. If it gets too bad you may need to head to an urgent care clinic and have them take a look and see if a course of antibiotics might work. They can help by killing any infection present.
