Chronic pain : Celiac plexus block is when local anesthetic is injected into a nexus of nerves located in the abdomen. It is used to treat chronic pain from cancer in the upper abdomen or it can be used to treat chronic pancreatitis. The chronicity is important because there are many potential complications. A proper diagnosis for the cause of the abdominal pain must be made prior to having this block.
