Hardened vein: This will probably heal in time. Does it hurt you? Is it in the hand or the arm? The other veins will help out while it is healing. It is not often that any special treatment is needed for this common issue. It has only been 4 days, give it a few more days.

Yes: apply moist heat and take advil aleve (naproxen) etc. if no better in a couple of days see a doctor. if signs of infection see a doctor now.
