It depends: The sternocleidomastoid traverses the entire length of the neck. There is a very general rule that an enlarged lymph node is more concerning if located lower in the neck as opposed to high up. If your nodes in question are in the lowermost portion of the neck, a chest x ray might add some peace of mind while you're waiting. Nodes in the upper neck generally call for a conservative approach.
