Is 16 hours a day of web surfing and smartphone use bad for the brain/memory?

Diversify: If you do not blink often, this much screen time can cause your eyes to become dry. To help your brain, you should diversify. There are benefits to aerobic exercise, good nutrition and mixing different activities- play music, paint, sculpt, write, talk with people, learn something new. It is hard to do all these things at a screen, and possibly, the screen time interferes with them.

Yes!: Of course surfing is using some mind power, but it is not critical thinking which is advantageous to the neuronal connections in the brain. I suggest you not be so "hooked up" every day for sure. Try doing crossword puzzles, math problems and reading. Give your mind fresh air with walks in nature too.
