My 16 month old toddler refuses to eat.

Picky eater?: Do you mean he is a picky eater or he eats nothing? Is he losing weight? How is his growth curve at the pediatrician's? If he is picky continue to try offering him healthy foods multiple times. Don't give up easily, a pediatric dietician would suggest offering the same item in different ways, making sure the food is colorful and tasty. Try to eat socially as a family and with other children.

Toddlers food strike: Because your child is not growing as much as he did during his first years of life, he does not need the calories. Hence, he has become very selective in what he eats. Instead of formal meals, let him "graze". Another suggestion is to have him help you with meal preperation. By no means, do not force him to eat.

Need more info: How much does the toddle weigh? Is he your first child? If he is gaining weight you may be overestimating his refusal to eat. He may be using his "refusal" to gain attention and get his other wishes fulfilled. He will eat when he is good and hungry. If he is not gaining weight, then it would be prudent to consult his pediatrician.
