It may be a viral : Tylenol, (acetaminophen) salt water gargles and hot liquids give symptom relief. If you have a fever over 101 or white patches on your tonsils you may need a throat culture (rapid strep test) or a blood test for MONO

Has it settled?: The sore throat should settle down in 5-7 days. If it does not, then go see your primary care of a ENT specialist.
