Risk is minimal: Anesthesia has become extremely safe due to all the monitoring and safer drug profiles. Sometimes it is better if a patient attends a preoperative clinic and speaks to the anesthesiologist about specifics for the anesthesia. When patients are informed, they feel more in control of what is going to happen.

Safe: Unless you are seriously ill at baseline or undergoing a high-risk operation, the risk if you having a major complication is very small.
