Severe anemia: Severe G6PD deficiency can cause severe anemia and increased bilirubin and can cause hydrops fetalis. Exposure by Mom to certain drugs, certain foods--fava bean-- exposure to moth balls napthalene--can trigger a severe reaction and may be responsible for hydrops fetalis.
