Tinea corporis: Tinea corporis (ringworm) is a fungal infection of the skin generally characterized (intially) by a red raised round patch, followed by central clearing and an advancing border. Although it is contagious, it is unusual for multiple lesions to develop in short order in an otherwise immunocompetent person. Multiple welts that occur at the same time are usually due to allergy or insect bites.

Allergy: Ringworm can spread but unusual to spread that fast. If the welts lose color with pressure and are not scaly and circular these are likely hives. And if the areas are circular and have an outer scale with central clearing this is characteristic of a ring worm. Please post pictures or get checked.

Not ringworm: This is probably not ringworm. If they are itchy it could be hives, or bug bites. Topical benadryl (diphenhydramine), (diphenhydramine) if they are bites, will help. If not much help, wait for 6 hours and try oral benadryl (diphenhydramine). If they go away, it's probably lives, & they can recur for 72 hours. See MD tomorrow if hives or if nothing helps. If he has lip swelling, go to ER.If he has trouble breathing, trouble swallowing, call 911
