A member asked:

How long after you take ec should "symptoms" including mild cramping and "butterflies" sensations in lower abdomen stop?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Emergency contracept: You are describing symptom of uterine cramping which are side effects of emergency contraception pills. The way EC works is to induce a menstrual period within 12-24 hours of taking the medication which is high dose progesterone. The decline in the progesterone level causes the uterine lining to shed. It is not unusual to have cramping at 48 hours.
