Prevention: It is best not to eat before any surgery. It can make you vomit and you can aspirate it into your lungs and choke yourself and you can get aspiration pneumonia which can be deadly. During a C section, we have to remove your baby and handle the uterus and it can cause you to vomit more. During an emergency Cesarean Section, we do not have a choice so we take precaution as much as possible.

Too dangerous: The risk of vomiting is high during csection. if a woman vomits, she risks aspiration which can be fatal. Women vomit for lots of reasons, anesthetic causes a drop in blood pressure, the uterus is being manipulated and there is abdominal pressure as well as other reasons. Maxalon is often given prophylactically before csection. If it's an emergency it's an emergency and we just accept the risk.
