Depends.: Depends on nature of back pain. Muscle relaxants might help, non steroidal agents might help, pain relievers also might help. Sometimes combo of all three works better than any single agent.

Muscle Relaxers: Aside pain relievers, doc may also utilize muscle relaxers, NSAIDS, prednisone, and even physical therapy.
