Reflux disease: Avoid foods that bring on sx: spicy/acidic/fried/fatty foods, caffeine, soda pop, chocolate. Take all meds w/ full glass of water. Lose weight (if applicable). Raise head of bed. Try antacids/acid blockers (zantac/axid/etc) or strong acid blockers (ppis like omeprazole/ nexium/prevacid). See fp to discuss symptoms & get treatment if otcs aren't enough for relief.

Depends on severity: Acid reflux can be managed different ways. The first is lifestyle modification. Raise the head of your bed, don't eat late, avoid foods that make reflux worse. The next step is medications like h2 blockers and ppi's that decrease the acid so the reflux doesn't burn as much. But remember, meds do not decrease the amount of reflux at all. The third way is surgery which fixes the valve.
