GI issue possibly: Night time abdominal pain is rarer than daytime. Can be related to gastroesophageal reflux and even gastritis in two year old. May be more symptomatic at night especially if child sleeps mainly on the back. Check with physician for further workup if pain continues.

Assessment: It is difficult to know whether it is a physical problem or if he is getting lonely. Nighttime pain may be related to reflux as he is more horizontal. Having him assessed at the time he has pain would help sort this out. Additional testing may include a urine, stool samples and an ultrasound. Keep a record of his symptoms and review them with his doctor. A trial of medication for reflux?
