A member asked:

I've had an ongoing high platelet count & low rbc count. what can be causing it? is it some type of disease or disorder? can my child have it as well?

RBC loss: Loss or destruction of RBC or any ongoing blood loss may be making your blood count low. To make up for the loss your bone marrow becomes hyperactive making more RBC and platelets. RBC still stay low due to ongoing loss but platelets remains high. please ask your doctor if you have evidence of hemolysis (RBC destruction) or ongoing blood loss
