Is scarlet fever treated the same way as with strep throat?

Yes: Scarlet fever is strep throat which has a sandpaper like rash mostly in the warm areas of the body. The organism is the same...Strep and is treated the same. The rash may take longer than the sore throat to go away, as much as 7-10 days.

Yes: The germ that causes group A strep disease, the common strep throat, comes in more than 1 strain. The germ may carry an additional piece of genetic information that gives it the ability to make "erythrotoxin", the material that will spread in the blood & cause the red rash & significant fevers of "scarlet fever".If your strain does not have the extra info, you don't.It is treated the same.
