Wrapping: Binding the rib cage is wrapping it tightly like with an elastic wrap. It is usually done for cracked ribs.

Like footbinding:NOT: People used to bind the chest with wraps to relieve pain from riB fractures, but it turned out not to be a good idea because it made it so you couldn't breathe normally. After rib injury you need to take deep breaths so the lungs can expand and not collect fluid in them. Of course, if an elastic wrap helps, be sure to remove it every hour or so and take several deep breaths, pain or not, OK?
