Viral syndrome: You may have an upper respiratory viral syndrome and it may also be including the apparatus of the ear to give you the lightheaded sensations you refer to as "rush feelings." These could be some variant form of vertigo. If your insomnia only started at the time cough started then, see your doctor for a full examination. They will make sure you are not suffering bacterial complications. Cheers!

It could be....: You could have allergies, a sinus infection, or even an unusual case of acid reflux. Would recommend a trip to your PCP to be evaluated. May need a specialist referral as well if simple approaches not effective. Quit smoking (if you do) as this can make coughing issues worse. OTC sinus and allergy meds may help with cough. You can also try saline sinus rinses to see if this helps too

Not sleeping: Acid reflux can disrupt sleep and cause a slight cough. Not sure what is causing the light headed rush. Might want to see your doctor and tell him about this and your insomnia.
