Pain rib/cartilage: Costochondritis is an inflammation of the cartilage that connects a rib to the breastbone-sternum. Common causes are : injury & coughing and rare causes: rheumatoid arthritis, infection, & tumor. Costochondritis occurs most often in women and in people older than 40.
