A member asked:

Sprained ankle in march, rice /walking boot for a month. had xray, no breaks.mri to check for blood clot that was negative.outer ankle still swells.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

I never really : Heard of anyone getting an MRI to check for blood clots. Usually a venous duplex ultrasound or even a d dimer blood test would be ordered to rule out a clot. The MRI would be ordered to assess for structural damage and could explain the swelling, having said that some swelling one month after an ankle sprain is not uncommon. Wear some type of compressive anklet while walking.
