A member asked:

Can a hospital waive an emergency room fee if the individual has no income and no job?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Sometimes: Hospitals can choose not to charge, and many either offer a discount or a sliding scale based upon income. An ER must do a screening exam and stabilize emergencies regardless of ability to pay. That being said, they have rendered expensive services in most cases, and have a right to expect payment for the time, expertise, and equipment used. Hope this helps!
