Should be okay: If you truly only took a single tablet of xanax/alprazolam last week, given the short half life of the medication and its break down products it should be out of your system by now. Again, this assumes no other details have been left out like use this week of a different benzodiazepine.

See HR: Because there are drugs in a hospital, drug addicts often try to work in hospitals in order to steal the drugs. Hospitals have to protect themselves. You need to take a note from your prescribing doctor to the head of human resources to explain why you tested positive. After discussing the situation, you will learn if anything can be done or if you need to find a different place to work.

Xanax (alprazolam): For any test like this, you should inform the lab and your potential employers that you take prescribed xanax (alprazolam). Provide them a copy of your physician's prescription or a note from him/her. Then any potential "positive" drug test for xanax (alprazolam) will be explained. It is possible, as dr. Altman suggests, that the xanax (alprazolam) you took last week will be gone by now -- but i suggest disclosure regardless.
