Dr said to take advil (ibuprofen). have gas and heartburn of a night sometimes. is this normal? any way to lessen these side effects?

Known effect: Ibuprofen is irritating to the stomach be sure to take it with food, and try and avoid it before bed time if that is when most of your symptoms are occurring.

Yes: Take advil (ibuprofen) with food. Try Tums and or Maalox or Prilosec. if heartburn occurs frequently., Avoid fatty foods and don;t eat for 2 hrs before bedtime. Sleep with the head of the bed elevated by 45 degrees. Followup with a gastroenterologist for an upper endoscopy. Peristent heartburn can cause esophageal damage and you may need this examined.
