Have you been seen?: Hi, have you been seen by a doctor for this yet? If not I suggest being seen as soon as possible. There are many causes for rapid heart rate and palpitations such as an arrhythmia,(abnormal heart rhythm), heart valve problems, metabolic disorders, etc... The only way to treat your symptoms is to find the cause. Any chest pain, trouble breathing or lightheadedness, call 911.

Avoid dehydration: The #1 benign cause of fast heart rate is dehydration. It is very important to drink lots of water, and by that I donot mean coffee and tea (which have a diuretic effect). Cardiac output is HR X Stroke volume so if you are dehydrated, your heart rate is going to go up in order to maintain an adequate C.O. Beside this, of course, primary electrical abnormalities would be in the differential.
