Constipation: Most babies will strain a little. As long as the fussiness is just with the BM, and baby is going once a day. Clay consistency is a bit more formed than average, for 5 weeks. Call your pediatrician for some recommendations to soften it up.

Clay consistency: is not really constipation. Your baby is still adjusting to life and feels discomfort when this happens. Crying for help and expressing his feelings. Discuss with your pediatrician if this persist. May need to change formula, offer some water in between feelings. Help him push the stools out by pulling his legs up against abdomen and massaging gently below the navel.
