Neonatal addiction: Lots of loaded questions. They'll always do a urine test on you, due to your use. Many hospitals do these on all moms. If positive they'll do a urine & meconium on the baby. If the UDS is neg, some hospitals will do it, due to your history. As far as taking the baby, there are many other factors that go in to that decision, besides the drug screen. Each case is individual. Good luck, stay clean!!!

It's best if you : disclose your cocaine use to your OB & pediatrician so they can check your baby's brain development. Meconium can test positive for use the last 4-5 months of pregnancy. Your OB can refer you to addiction specialists to help you stay clean. Your pediatrician & your state's Early Intervention Program can follow baby's development closely. Your desire to stay clean will help you keep your baby.
