Skin infection: From your description it sounds like he has developed a different kind of infection a skin infection called impetigo. This is likely caused by strep or staph and requires an antibiotic by mouth. He requires a visit to his MD or an urgent care. His eye should be bathed frequently and he requires antibiotics for pink eye as well. Wash your hands carefully. Both infections are contagious.

Possibly impetigo: What you may be describing is impetigo, a skin infection caused usually by strep bacteria. It may need antibiotics , but today you can start washing the area with antibacterial soap(liquid dial) and applying neosporin to the scabs. Contact your doctor to be seen tomorrow or go to Urgent care today

See pediatrician: Use half baby shampoo and half water mixed in the cap and wash around eyelashes and lids after applying a warm wash cloth against the eye. This will loosen the crusting and cleanse the area. See your doctor for antibiotics if needed. An eye antibiotic ointment can be used on the eyelids. Is your child scratching? Impetigo is usually honey-colored crusting. Chicken pox can also cause scabbing.
