A member asked:

Can you get hpv only from another person who has the virus? i never slept with anyone but have a pimple supposed to see a dermatologist to treat. hpv?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unlikely: The HPV are a wide ranging group of dozens of viral strains. There are 4 important ones that are passed sexually, but the common skin wart is also caused by a strain. If you have not had any sexual exposure, it is unlikely you could have one of those strains. The common skin wart strain is often passes hand to hand or by general exposures. Pimple like lesions are likely caused by something else.
