Call the Dr.ordering: Medline plus is an excellent reputable web site to explain what each lab test is. It appears someone is ordering genetic testing for diseases like Metachromatic leukodystrophy (autosomal recessive) or a mitochondrial disease. These words sound complicated because the diseases are complicated. I suggest going back to the doctor who is ordering these test with a note pad in hand and carefully review

Aryl A: This is an enzyme necessary for brain cells. Deficiency may cause neurological condition presenting with delayed development, seizure, muscle weakness and contractures.. Rare test performed mostly by specialist for genetic disorders. Long fatty acid and amino acids are available. Which one you mean ?. In any case they are checked for rare storage disorders. I am not aware of lactaid acid.
