Transitory condition: Very common and transitory condition. Most people do not have any discomfort during dental cleanings, but some experience tooth pain or gums pain afterward. Take some over the counter painkiller to mange the discomfort. In some cases it could indicate a cavity or an irritated or inflamed nerve. If pain persist more then 48 hours, see your dentist for re-evaluation.

Possible infection: It is always possible, after any type of intervention, to initiate an infective or inflammatory response. In short to back to the treating dentist for more positive diagnosis.
